The East End runs east of downtown, with Fort Boise to the northwest and the Boise River to the southwest. Warm Springs Avenue is its spine. Starting in the 1890s, owners of a hot water line built homes along it and piped in spring water. The city says these were among the first houses in the world heated by geothermal water. North of the avenue, the East End Historic District sits on a grid with mid-block alleys, and Craftsman bungalows are its most common style.
