When Should You Book Window Cleaning Before the Holidays in Boise?

Book it in October or early November, and plan for the cleaning to be done at least a week before your guests arrive. By then the sprinklers are off, so clean glass stays clear, and the days are still mild enough that cold is less likely to move your visit.

Why clean your windows before the holidays?

Guests notice glass. They stand at the big window with their coffee, take photos in front of it, and use the sliding door all day. A few more reasons the holidays make a good deadline:

  • Short days. In early and mid December, the sun sets around 5:09 PM in Boise. With that little daylight, you want every bit of it coming through clean glass.
  • Low winter sun. The sun sits low all winter and shines straight through the glass, lighting up every fingerprint and streak.
  • Summer and fall dust. Dry summers, open fields and construction around the valley leave a dusty film on outside glass by fall.

When should you book a pre-holiday window cleaning?

October or early November is the sweet spot:

Hosting Thanksgiving? Aim for the first half of November. Hosting at Christmas? Late November or early December can work, but the colder it gets, the more likely a day gets moved. Either way, finish at least a week before guests arrive, so there’s time for a touch-up.

Inside, outside or both?

For guests, both. Outside glass takes the weather, and inside glass is what everyone sees up close.

  • Outside. Nobody needs to be home. We clean the glass, frames and sills by hand, and we take every screen off and put it back. See exterior window cleaning.
  • Inside. Someone needs to be home to let our tech in. You never need to move furniture or give us water. See interior window cleaning.
  • Add-ons. Screen cleaning on our XERO machine and track detailing are extras. If the sliding door your guests will use all week feels gritty, ask about the tracks.

One tip: book the inside cleaning before the tree and decorations go up. A decorated tree in front of the big window is the one thing nobody wants to move. And customers notice how we treat their home:

“Double Take came and did our windows inside and out today, including screens and we could not be more impressed. Polite, respectful in every way, even wearing booties while in our home. …”

What about the white spots from summer?

Most white spots on Treasure Valley windows come from sprinklers. Light spots get worked on during every cleaning. Heavier spots take extra work, so they’re priced on site, and Monthly and Quarterly members get hard water removal on up to 5 panes every visit at no charge. Here’s how to stop sprinklers from spotting your windows next summer.

What else should you get done before the holidays?

Think of the house from the outside in: the roofline first, then the glass.

Gutters, before the snow. Boise’s first measurable snow comes around November 23 on average. Packed gutters spill rain and melting snow over the edge, and in winter that water can freeze along the roof edge. Late fall, after the leaves come down, is the time for gutter cleaning, and you can add it to your window cleaning so it all gets done in one trip. Hanging lights too? Here’s why to clean your gutters before the lights go up.

Christmas lights. We hang lights too, so one local company can handle your windows, gutters and roofline. We use commercial-grade LED lights, a weather-ready install, and roof-safe clips that never pull on your gutters. We test every strand, come back if something goes dark mid-season, and take it all down on a date you pick. We also do wreaths, garland, and tree and bush wrapping. Lights go up easiest on a dry roofline in early to mid November. Here’s when to put up and take down Christmas lights in Boise, or see Christmas light installation.

A simple holiday timeline

  • October: get your quotes for windows, gutters and lights, and pick your dates.
  • Late October to mid November: outside windows while the days are mild, and gutters once the leaves are down.
  • Early to mid November: lights go up on a dry roofline. Switch them on whenever you’re ready.
  • Before the tree goes up: inside windows, on a day someone’s home.
  • A week before guests: everything done, with time to spare.

What if the weather turns?

Light rain doesn’t stop a cleaning. Heavy rain, unsafe wind or freezing cold does, and we call you to reschedule. If rain the same day leaves spots, we come back for free, for every customer. Monthly and Quarterly members also get our 7-day Rain Guarantee. More here: what if it rains after window cleaning?

You also get a text reminder 2 weeks and 2 days before each visit, and every visit has a 2-hour arrival window.

Doing it yourself before guests arrive

You can, especially the inside glass. A few tips:

  • Work in the shade or on a cloudy day, so the cleaner doesn’t dry on the glass before you wipe it.
  • Use a squeegee, then dry the edges and sills with a lint-free cloth.
  • Save outside glass for a dry afternoon above freezing, and stay off the ladder on frost, wet leaves or ice.

Here’s how to clean windows without streaks, and whether it’s safe to clean second-story windows yourself.

How much does a pre-holiday window cleaning cost?

Your price depends on how much glass you have, whether we clean inside, outside or both, and any add-ons. Here’s what window cleaning costs in Boise. Christmas lights are quoted separately, home by home.
