Do Windows in a New Build Need Cleaning?
Usually, yes. A brand-new home’s windows have been sitting in a construction site for months, so they often come with dust on the glass and more of it packed into the tracks.
Why new windows look dirty
- Construction dust. Framing, drywall, grading and landscaping all throw fine dust in the air, and it settles on glass and frames.
- Packed tracks. The tracks and sills of sliding windows and doors collect that dust, so windows can feel gritty and stick when you open them.
- Dusty screens. Screens sit in the dust the whole time the house is being built, then put it back on the glass every time the wind blows.
- The building next door. In a growing subdivision, the house next to yours may still be going up, so the dust keeps coming after you move in.
What a first cleaning covers
For a new home we suggest a full first cleaning: inside and outside glass, with the frames, edges and sills detailed. Outside, we take every screen off and put it back, and you can add screen cleaning on our XERO screen cleaning machine and track detailing to get the construction dust out of the tracks. Every window is cleaned by hand with a mop and squeegee, never pressure washed. Here’s what one new-build customer told us:
“Absolutely fabulous job! Windows and screens look amazing better than they did the day we moved into our home (new build)! Thank you guys for your professionalism and outstanding work”
How often to clean while your neighborhood is still building
While houses are still going up near you, dust settles on glass and in tracks faster than usual, so quarterly cleanings are a good fit. Once your street is built out, twice a year is plenty for most homes: spring, once the pollen settles, and fall, after sprinkler season. New yards often run sprinklers hard while the grass gets going, and that water dries into white spots on the lower glass. Here’s how to deal with hard water spots.
