How Often Should You Clean Your Windows in Boise?
For most homes in Boise and the Treasure Valley, the answer is at least twice a year: once in spring and once in fall. Go quarterly if sprinklers hit your glass or you live near fields or new construction. Storefronts and offices with a lot of foot traffic often go monthly.
Why windows here get dirty fast
The Treasure Valley is hard on glass. A few things speed up the grime:
- Spring pollen and cottonwood fluff. It sticks to screens and glass, and every breeze adds more.
- Sprinklers. Irrigation water carries a lot of minerals. When it hits your windows and dries, it leaves white spots that get harder to remove the longer they sit. Here's how to get hard water spots off your windows.
- Dust and wind. Dry summers, open fields and all the new construction around the valley mean a steady film of dust.
- Winter grime. Snow, rain and gray inversion days leave glass dull and streaky by spring.
- Wildfire smoke. In some summers, smoke leaves a gray film on glass and ash on the sills. Here’s how to clean smoke and ash off your windows.
A simple schedule that works
- Twice a year (most homes): spring, once the pollen settles, and fall, after sprinkler season ends. That's clean windows for summer and clean windows for the holidays.
- Quarterly: homes with sprinklers that reach the glass, homes near farms or construction, and anyone who wants clear windows all year. Our Quarterly membership is our most popular plan.
- Monthly: storefronts, offices and restaurants, where customers see your glass every day.

Inside vs. outside
Outside glass takes the weather, so it needs cleaning more often. Inside glass collects fingerprints, pet nose prints and cooking film more slowly, so for most homes once or twice a year is plenty. A full inside-and-outside clean in spring is a great reset.
Don't skip the screens and tracks
Dirty screens put dust right back on clean glass every time the wind blows, and packed tracks make windows stick. Have them cleaned at least once a year, ideally along with your spring window cleaning. See our screen cleaning and track detailing.
What if it rains right after a cleaning?
It doesn't rain much here, and rain usually doesn't spot a fresh cleaning anyway, because we clean the frames and sills the rain runs off of. If rain the same day leaves spots, we come back for free, for every customer. Monthly and Quarterly members also get our 7-day Rain Guarantee: if rain spots your windows within a week of a cleaning, we come back and touch them up at no extra cost.
