Do Christmas Light Installers Provide the Lights?
Usually, yes. Most professional Christmas light installers bring the lights, and we do: every Double Take install uses LED lights we measure and cut to fit your roofline, plus the clips and extension cords that go with them.
What we bring to your house
When you book a lighting install with us, the lights come with it. Every install includes:
- LED lights. Every display uses bright LED lights that are easy on your power bill.
- Commercial-grade strands. Lights made to hold up all season, hung with a weather-ready install built for Idaho winters.
- Strands cut to fit. We measure your roofline and peaks, then cut every strand to length. No extra bulbs bunched at a corner, and no loose cords hanging off the house.
- Roof-safe clips. They grip the roofline with no nails, no screws and no sticky residue, and they never pull on your gutters.
- Extension cords. We handle every strand, clip and cord, from install day to takedown, so you never climb a ladder.
Want more than the roofline? We also hang wreaths and garland and wrap trees and bushes. Mention them when you ask for your quote.
Why installers bring their own lights
Store-bought strands come in set lengths, and rooflines don’t. Put a few boxes of lights on a real house and you usually end up with extra bulbs doubled back at the end of a run, or a strand that stops a few feet short of the corner. Bringing our own lights lets us cut each strand to the exact length of each run, peaks and garage roof included.
It also means we know every strand that goes up. We test each one on install day and walk the display with you before we leave. If a strand goes dark later, or the weather knocks something loose, call us and we’ll come back to fix it.
That matters in the Treasure Valley. Snow, freezing nights and wind are all part of the season here, and Boise’s first measurable snow comes around November 23 on average. Commercial-grade lights on a weather-ready install are made to ride that out until takedown.
Who keeps the lights after the holidays?
With us, the lights don’t end up tangled in your garage. On a date you pick, right after New Year’s or a few weeks later, we come back and take everything down: lights, clips and extension cords. The clips come off right along with the lights, and your home goes back to normal. We pack it all into labeled bins and keep it in our company storage unit until next season. Takedown and storage are free.
Next fall we send you a quick text to get your lights back on the schedule. Your strands were already cut to fit your house, so they’re ready to go back up.
Installers handle the lights in different ways. At some companies you buy the lights outright. At others the lights stay with the company from year to year. If you want to know exactly how it works for the lights on your house, ask when you get your quote and we’ll walk you through it.
Can I use lights I already own?
Maybe you have a few boxes of lights from past years and wonder if they can go up. Mention it when you ask for your quote, or call or text us. Tell us what you have: how many strands, LED or the older incandescent kind, and whether they’re rated for outdoor use. Our installs are built on strands we cut to fit and test ourselves, so we’ll talk through what makes sense for your house.
Hanging your own? Check the lights first
Lights that spent a year in a box don’t always come back out working. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s holiday tips say to check every set of lights, new or old, and plug outdoor lights into a GFCI-protected outlet. A quick list before anything goes up a ladder:
- Look for cracked or broken sockets, frayed or bare wire and loose connections. Throw out any damaged set.
- Check the label: outdoor lights should say they’re certified for outdoor use.
- Use a GFCI-protected outlet or a portable GFCI outside.
- Check your extension cords too. They should be rated for how you’re using them, with no cuts or fraying.
- Plug in every strand on the ground first, so you aren’t pulling a dead run back off the roof.
- Go early, while the roofline is dry. Pick a calm day, and stay off any roof with ice or frost on it.

Our quote form asks how much of the house you want lit: front only, front and sides, or front, sides and back. The front is what the street sees, so it’s a natural place to start. Here’s what changes the size of a lighting job and how an install works, start to finish.
